A Dose of Vitamin C

Following in the footsteps of Tory Burch-our fearless prep leader-the fashion world has embraced fresh-squeezed orange this spring.

While perusing the mall this weekend I was pleased to see this kumquat hue glowing at me through the dioramas.  One can embrace the citrus movement and go for a head-to-toe look a la a popsicle, or just pick a piece here or there to brighten up a dull winter wardrobe.

Orange does not have to be a tricky color, as once believed, and you won't necessarily resemble a tangelo if you're not a toothpick either.  Color blocking is a great way to mix colors and pink is at the top of my list.  I intend to pair together the J. Crew Minnie pants with a petal pink cashmere sweater.  So what if I resemble a fruit salad?!  Just have fun with it!!! For a more subtle approach try navy.  With a pair of skinny jeans and a navy cardi, Tory Burch's polo would complete a fabulous weekend ensemble.  Avoid black though, you don't want to look too eager for Halloween.

Mixed with everything from lemon to lavender and in an array of items ranging from watch bands to wellies, there is bound to be something for everyone.

Here are a few of my favorites...

Tan, please!?

Is having a tan preppy? Does it depend on location, season, overall hue?

Being a bronze-goddess was not always in fashion.  Ladies would shield themselves from sunlight with hats and parasols until Coco Chanel, made it de rigueur to have a healthy glow. But now, there are so many warnings against tanning beds and sunlight that you have to bathe yourself is SPF 30 before walking out the door.

So...if you live in New England and it is the middle of winter would a tan give you away as a fake baker, or would it suggest a lil' jaunt to Palm Beach? Would it matter? After all, pink & green looks so much better with a tan, no matter what zip code you're in!
And while having an orange hue is a common Jersey occurrence, a just-back-from-the-beach-glow is a much better look. No one wants to look like an Oompa-Loompa!
